Careless iPhone owners may now insure their handsets against accidents and losses. However, with a $12/month fee and a deductible of $199 for the latest version of the iPhone, it probably makes more financial sense just to be cautious with the device.
The iPhone insurance policy provided by Asurion protects damaged, stolen, or lost iPhones and is the only authorized plan from Dallas-based carrier AT&T, the only company currently offering wireless service for the iPhone.
While the iPhone 4 is priced between $199 and $299 with the signing of a two-year contract with AT&T, customers would have to pay the phone's full retail price of $599-$699 to replace the device in the middle of a contract.
The iPhone insurance coverage costs $12 per month and requires policyholders to pay a $199 deductible in order to replace an iPhone 4, but only $50-$100 to replace older iPhone models.
