Indiana has some of the toughest auto insurance laws. Drivers shouldn't take a chance by not having any required auto insurance coverage.
Auto insurance laws require a new auto liability policy to have uninsured and underinsured motorist's coverage unless it is declined in writing. This make the state's auto insurance laws stricter than those found in other states.
Minimum liability coverage amounts are $25,000 for injury or death of a person in an accident, $50,000 for the injury or death of two or more people in an accident, and $10,000 for property damage. Minimum liability limits for uninsured motorists are the same. For underinsured motorist bodily injury coverage, $50,000 is the minimum.
Minimum auto insurance requirements are bodily injury coverage of $25,000 per person injured and $50,000 for everyone hurt as well as $10,000. Uninsured motorist coverage is identical. For underinsured motorists, auto insurance coverage is $50,000 for bodily injury in an accident while property damage coverage is $10,000.
If a vehicle has to have a license plate, then it must have auto insurance in Indiana. If you drive without required auto insurance coverage, your driver's license could be suspended for 90 days. Proof of valid current insurance is mandated at the time the license is reinstated.
