If you own or drive a vehicle in the state of Alabama, you will want to make sure that you obey all the laws. When you buy the vehicle, you need to have it registered and obey all emissions laws. You will want to obey all traffic signals and laws. One important law that you will need to follow is to purchase auto insurance in Alabama. Like most of the other United States, Alabama has auto insurance laws that you have to follow when you drive. Usually, this means purchasing insurance.
There are three different ways to establish financial responsibility in the state. The most common way to establish financial responsibility is to purchase auto insurance in Alabama. This is the least expensive method for most people. The other two ways that Alabamans can prove financial responsibility is to acquire a motor vehicle liability bond or a certificate of cash bond. Either one of those amounts need to be in an amount that is at least $50,000. Since most people do not have $50,000 on hand to deposit with the State Treasurer, they choose to fulfill the minimum auto insurance requirements by purchasing at least the minimum amount of coverage from an auto insurance company.
You are required to purchase a minimum amount of liability auto insurance in Alabama. You will need to purchase $25,000 of injury liability coverage for one person, $50,000 for all injuries incurred in any one accident, and $25,000 in property damage liability for any one accident. Alabama's auto insurance requirements do not include personal injury protection, collision, underinsured or uninsured motorist, or comprehensive insurance, although you may wish to purchase additional coverage for your own piece of mind.
If you drive a motorcycle, you will need to purchase the same amount of liability auto insurance in Alabama as you would if you were driving a regular motor vehicle. You will not have to show proof that you have purchased the required auto insurance coverage in order to register your motorcycle.
Although Alabama's required auto insurance coverage does not include uninsured or underinsured motorist coverage, you may want to purchase it on your own. In an attempt to trim their budgets, some drivers are cutting back on the amount of insurance coverage that they carry. Uninsured and underinsured motorist insurance is not that costly, and you'd be happy to have it if you get into an accident with someone that isn't following the auto insurance laws. To save on auto insurance in Alabama, you may want to raise your deductible. If you can pay your auto insurance all at once, rather than in monthly installments, you can save more money. Don't allow your auto insurance policy to lapse, or you may end up paying higher rates.
